Casey Baden (b. 1991 Houston, TX) is a Los Angeles-based, interdisciplinary artist whose expressionistic painting and textile works explore the transformative nature of human intimacy. Through paint, natural dye, woven cloth, and patch-worked sewing, Baden composes the surreal inner worlds of her subjects into scenes of domestic life and leisure. She borrows strategies from craft practices, surrealism, and expressionism, collaged together to create figurative narratives with a measured irreverence for convention and categorization. She has been awarded residencies at Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Vermont Studio Center, The Reef, AZ West, Textile Art Center NY, PADA Studios, and The Plum Lime Residency NY, and JO-HS, CDMX. She has exhibited works in the US and Europe, with exhibitions in LA including La Loma Projects, The Middle Room Gallery, The MAK Center, The Santa Monica Art Museum, The Palos Verdes Art Center, Quarters Gallery, and Spring Break. She is also an adjunct professor of art teaching across mediums in drawing, painting, and textiles.
