Wiepke Wolfsbergen is a textile artist based in The Netherlands who has been developing and experimenting with their own sustainable material.
They graduated from the Swedish School of Textiles with a bachelors in Textile design in 2024 but have been working with textiles since they were 5 years old. Wiepke participated at Fashion Week Amsterdam at age 17. This gave them the opportunity to create a collection in which they explored queerness and labels as a non-binary artist. Being a fashion designer sparked an interest in material, and a desire to create and design it themselves.
This culminated in their degree work, where they developed their own biomaterial from bioplastic and waste-yarn. These yarns would otherwise be destroyed but are now given a new purpose while still being recyclable in the future due to the bioplastic being biodegradable. Strokes of this playful material were then hand-woven into light-objects.
Since then, Wiepke has opened their own studio where they create eye-catching sculptures and light objects while exploring topics like geography, sustainability, the innovation of materials and drawing inspiration from their environment.
