Patricia Alcantara Aquino

Patricia Aquino is a multidisciplinary artist originating from the Philippines + based in Chicago. Her background as an ICU nurse has broadened her awareness of racial, health and financial disparities. This has carried onto her work as an artist in the way that she sheds light on societal topics. Her portraiture embodies the subjects’ essence. She aims to understand and amplify the energy in the people she photographs. Patricia’s motion projects carry themes of moving through difficult emotions and our sense of identities - she beautifully amplifies stories through the use of symbolism, colors and poetry.

Patricia has been part of Soho House CFC and presented her short film which expands on themes of societal standards and racial stereotypes that forces individuals to feel trapped in their perceived identity. This poem touches on the importance of actively questioning and growing past these beliefs. She has also conducted a video project for International Women's Day, and interviewed impactful women of Chicago. This video emphasizes the importance of empowering one another and the strength in building community.

She hopes to continue to create documentaries, photographs and short films that empower groups of people in creating and sustaining change. There is great power in collaboration and in creation. With her ability to deeply connect and understand individuals, she aims to shed light and amplify voices among the people she has the honor of sharing space with.
