Do I have to be an artist to do this residency? No. You don’t need to be an artist or a creative person to apply – that language may appear but please let it be clearly known ANY person working or not working in ANY FIELD or profession or practice is ENCOURAGED to apply.
Is it free to apply? When do I have to pay by? It is free to apply. Upon acceptance a 50% non refundable deposit of the total residency fee is due and the entire amount is due no later than 2 weeks before your arrival.
Can I bring things to sell around Gracia? Our space is not located in a public area so we don’t have an open shop. We can advise you on where to ask in Antigua if its possible to sell your pieces while you are in town.
Is there financial aid for any program? At this time there is not, we encourage all residents, artists, visitors to apply for grants, ask their own community for support, do a kickstarter, etc.
Why does this residency cost money? Almost the entirety of residency fees go towards space rental of the house. While a monetary exchange may feel intimidating, especially as a struggling artist, We know from our own practice how great it is to take that leap and have it evolve into your practice and career paths in vibrant and transformative ways.
Is there wifi? Yes.
Who will be at the house while I am there? Mafer, the director and project manager of the residency stays to facilitate the program.
Can I bring my child? When applying there is a space to say if you’d like to bring a child – note that there. There is an extra $25 charge for the overall residency fee.
Can I bring my partner? Preferably only if they are a collaborator. The price for a 10 day residency program for two is $575 per person – unlike other programs we lower the fee because as artists we enjoy, support, and encourage collaboration. Note that you will have to share the room.
What do I need to bring? This will vary depending on what you plan to do when you come visit, we will make sure to plan ahead of your trip so you know what materials you should bring that you can’t find in Guatemala. For living, towel and toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion will be provided. We can point you to laundromats around Antigua if needed.
